Soben Chamlek Bambek Kroh

Review

The bold and unconventional Ban Hua is a charismatic character. Her uncle is the Emperor of Daye; her father, the hedonistic Marquis Jingting, has more money than a god. She inherited her grandfather, General Ban’s martial arts skills, and she has a wardrobe to die for. For her, rules are made to be broken, and her carefree attitude and daring exploits have made the nobles swoon and nod, and the nobles envy her. If there’s one blemish on her charming existence, it’s that all her engagements have gone down in flames for the amusement of the Daye elite.

When the incomparable Ban Hua crosses paths with the elegant Rong Xia, Count Chengán, Daye’s most talented and eligible gentleman, their friendship becomes the talk of the town. The best thing about this is the character designs of Ban Hua and Rong Xia and their hilarious and hilarious interactions that light up the screen. This comedy is well-written and vividly presented. The Ban family is the most emotional and fun drama family I’ve seen in a long time. Ban Hua’s biggest fan, her charming, scheming younger brother Ban Heng, is my favorite character. Both Guan Xiaotong and Hou Minghao hit all the right notes in their performances. Guan Xiaotong gives off a curious air of great vulnerability that softens Ban Hua’s impatience and arrogance. While Hou Minghao’s Rong Xia is too handsome and irrepressible, and is measured and powerful in his soft-spoken manner, he is the perfect foil for Ban Hua’s impatience.

Unfortunately, the story doesn’t do justice to the strong performances of the actors at all. The history between the Daye noble family and the secret plot that leads to the downfall of the Rong family is really interesting and well thought out. I loved watching Ban Hua and Rong Xia learn to trust each other and work together against their enemies. The film would have been best concluded after the removal of the villains at the beginning. After that, the plot feels forced and succumbs to tropey, boring, and contrived rival love tropes. All the progress the couple makes is undone to create unnecessary misunderstandings and ridiculous and unexpected twists. I felt like this couple couldn’t relate or work together and should definitely get divorced. The second half was boring and ridiculous, while the first half was interesting and engaging. Rong Xia’s character in particular was ruined as he went to unimaginable lengths to save his love. The character interactions were hilarious, and that was the only thing that kept me watching until the end. Overall, it was still a decent watch, but nothing to write home about. This is a 7.5/10 overall, but the first half felt closer to an 8.5.
