Summary of the story
Watched this mainly to support Taiwan's presence on the world stage and to be excited about Luc Besson's film. Was very disappointed by a story that looked like a fantasy of a 10-year-old Western boy playing with his co-workers in a farmyard. What's the Chinese background music? The Chinese dialogue with symbols that the female lead bursts out in when she's grumbling to the white Luke Evans - but not when she's talking to the Asian Sung Kang? Racism aside - what about the story of a woman who marries a gangster for 13 years, only to spend all her money, and tears her eyes at her ex-boyfriend the whole time? If racism, misogyny and a terrible instinct for writing, scoring, editing and directing were all put together in one movie, that would be it. Even my 5-year-old at the daycare I taught could have come up with a more logical story. It was a complete waste of my money and IQ score, and Besson and the film studio owe me an apology for this.
