Summary of the story
Jurassic World Rebirth is certainly better than its predecessor and exceeds the entertainment expectations of any moviegoer (myself included), but it’s not without its flaws. However, steps in the right direction are the new timeline, as well as a new cast led by Scarlett Johansson, Jonathan Bailey, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, and two-time Oscar winner Mahershala Ali, but the repetition in other parts of the film undermines its potential to be more. Warning; traffic lights ahead!!!
Personally, the film starts out with four stars, due to a number of recurring issues such as expected deaths, human greed, animal exploitation, and attempts at comedy that are removed from the more serious films. On the other hand, the latter is sometimes overshadowed by the entertainment of the beloved and easily recognizable scenes from the original two films, especially in the climax of the film, where the survivors find themselves trapped in a location similar to the infamous kitchen scene from the first film, where the velociraptors corner the two children in a small space with little chance of escape. The same air of the same film. At the same time, we see a lot of expected deaths, but they’re all creatively crafted, thanks to director Gareth Edwards’ experience with monster movies.
The second downfall comes with the fact that the film does very little to show off the ferocity that is Distortus Rex. Like Edwards’ Godzilla (2014), where the titular monster spends most of its time either out of sight or hidden in smoke, D-Rex follows the same formula, as it’s rarely seen in the open until the end of the film. It’s a shame that the designers combined the T-Rex with the Rancor from Star Wars & the Xenomorph from Alien to create a ferocious killing machine that moves slowly and at times is near silent despite its massive size.
While it may seem like the film has some great flaws, it still delivers some incredible action, adrenaline-fueled thrills, scary moments, heart-warming moments, and a focus on the qualities of the dinosaurs they choose to feature instead of filling the screen with too many of them. Cameos include raptors, dilophosaurus and of course the awesome T-Rex, along with properly redesigned Spinosaurus & Mosasaurus and new arrivals like Titanosaurus & Quetzalcoatlus (whose body shape is heavily inspired by the condom, i.e. eyes). Each dinosaur steals the show and shows us new and unexpected abilities, as all the dinosaurs on the island are genetically modified more than any other animal. The CGI backgrounds are very impressive, as they show beautiful landscapes that are not particularly well-liked by humans who are only fit for animals. Plus, each action scene makes you wonder who will get eaten next, whether it's in the ocean or on the side of a cliff in the hopes of getting a cure for heart disease. Each dinosaur is well-designed, with added features, and the ending is fitting enough to suggest that there is still hope.
