Movie Review
The main character loses his wife in a car accident early on, while we don’t really know her, so it’s not really emotional, but it’s not really for the story either. So while this event doesn’t really tie into the story and just gives you a sense of random storytelling, the normality of the main character’s life is destroyed before the disaster and you don’t really get that awful feeling when things turn into a horror scenario because of the depressing atmosphere. WWZ does a better job of creating chaos in the middle of this big city where Pitt has to protect his family. Of course, budget is important here – when you’ve seen WWZ, you can find the beginning of the movie just lame. And that’s it. In the end, I found the transition to chaos not surprising enough in this film, it’s just poorly set up. Some of the TV news is talking about illness in the background like in World War Z, while nothing interesting is happening. The wife is dead, she’s depressed, she’s in pain, I don’t really care. The surprise is gone, and the main character doesn't even pull out his gun after the guy shoots himself. Instead, he uses a harpoon, which is even more annoying than Daryl's crossbow in The Walking Dead because he only has one arrow. Zombies look good, but you don't see them very often. After his town is forcibly evacuated by the military, the protagonist, who has been hiding in his house, meets an old woman in a wheelchair. They become friends, and he takes care of her for a while, going on a scavenger hunt, but the looting is neither credible nor satisfying. There is no search for weapons. No knives! Not even a kitchen knife! After going on a scavenger hunt, he finds her dead. She killed herself to avoid being a burden. So, for the first time, someone he knew died by suicide. I won't continue this, at this point I can say that the story has something random about it, it's average or even trashy. Maybe this movie would be more interesting if I hadn't seen so much of it before, but it wasn't. Cats are useless btw if I remember correctly. I would give it three stars, but there are so many five star reviews that I don't believe it's true that I would give it one because I feel like I have to work against this trend.
