Summary of the story
Flight Risk (2025) starts off on a high note, with solid set-up, solid camerawork, and an interesting atmosphere. The first few shots in the cockpit draw you in, and the takeoff sequence offers some beautiful visuals. But once the plane takes to the air, the film loses its edge. The direction is competent but lacks any real flair, and the transition to a standard back-and-forth between the characters makes everything predictable. The plot tries to build tension with espionage and intrigue, but it never fully develops. There are a lot of questionable decisions made by the characters, and the script doesn’t do much to make them feel believable. Mark Wahlberg gives a solid performance, holding his own well, but the supporting cast doesn’t really bring much to the table. The CGI is a weak point, especially considering how much the film relies on it. With most of the action taking place in a plane, you’d expect at least the exterior shots to be believable, but they’re not. The action sequences feel convoluted and sometimes defy logic in ways that take you out of the experience. The score is there, but nothing stands out. Overall, Flight Risk has potential, but ends up being an average thriller that relies too heavily on familiar tropes without adding anything new.
